PHRA MAHATHAT CHEDI TRAIPHOP TRAIMONGKON

Generally, most of chedis in Thailand since the Sukhothai era are built from mortar. However, this chedi is the first stainless steel chedi in the world. The official name is ?PhraMahathatChediTraiphopTraimongkon?. It is generally called ?Wat Stainless? or ?Chedi Stainless?.

Located on the top of KhaoKho Hong mountain, on Punnakan Rd., HadYai district, Songkhla province, it was built on the occasion of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the King BhumibolAdulyadej?s accession to the throne. The construction completed in 160 days on February 28, B.E. 2549. It was made from all stainless steel tubing and is lit up at night and visible from the road below the hill that passes it. Tourists can visit the well-decorated stainless steel inside the chedi. Each door in the chedi represents 8 days in a week (the Wednesday has 2 doors representing Wednesday morning and Wednesday night) and each day also has its own Buddha image in different attitutudes.

You can go to the second floor by the spiral stainless steel ladder to take some photos of the chedi structure. Besides, on the second floor, there is a balcony, but normally, the doorkeeper locks the door.

There are Quan Yin statue, Buddha?s footprint, Buddha images and other interesting items.

On every 7th, 17th and 27th at 10.20 a.m. of every month, Buddhists will gather at the temple to give the offering dedicated to the monks. The temple is a good example of the modern Buddhist temple as it uses stainless steel as the main materials to build the chedi.
